Hillsborough is 11 miles east of our Mebane office, with Efland in between. Roca's Painters is a family-owned, Latino-owned company founded by Jose Roca in 2016. Jose still does every estimate himself, which matters on a house carrying 150 years of paint history and a few generations of repairs.

We paint interiors and exteriors, repair rotted trim and siding before paint, and handle offices and HOA common areas. The Orange County seat has an unusual spread of housing. Its historic core dates to the 1700s, while the median house in town was built in 2001, and about a third went up in the 2010s alone. One company has to be comfortable with both.

Hillsborough puts 18th-century houses and 2010s subdivisions within a few minutes' drive of each other. Each part of town asks something different of a painter.

The Historic District's Oldest Houses

The Historic District counts 529 contributing buildings from the late 1700s to the early 1900s, in Federal, Greek Revival and Italianate styles. The Town's guidance is that exterior changes there can need a Certificate of Appropriateness or staff approval. Before we schedule exterior work on a district house, we check with the Town on what the project needs.

Mill Houses in West Hillsborough and Bellevue

West Hillsborough was platted in 1913 and filled with mill-worker houses through the 1940s: Craftsman bungalows and simple cottages with plain weatherboards and shed-roofed porches. Bellevue's 1910s mill houses sit close together on a loop road. Weatherboard this age needs board-by-board checking, and porch floors and posts get the most weather.

HOA Neighborhoods off NC 86 and I-40

Beckett's Ridge dates to 1999, Churton Grove went up mostly from 2003 to 2012, and Waterstone from 2015 to 2020. All three have HOAs, and Churton Grove keeps a Manual of Architectural Control. Pull your community's color rules before the estimate, and we will quote to an approved color.

Hillsborough has been a Tree City USA member since 2003, and the Eno River runs through town. Where a lot is shaded, a muggy stretch from late May to late September slows drying on north-facing walls. Exterior jobs start with a thorough wash and allow dry time before primer.
