The change is dramatic for the time it takes, which is why it's one of our favorite jobs. A kitchen is typically finished in three to five days with about two painters. Jose starts with an in-person look. He checks the existing finish and looks for warped doors or loose joints. He also talks through color and sheen, which matters more on cabinets than on walls: a higher sheen wipes clean more easily but shows every flaw underneath, so the choice depends on your doors. The written quote comes the day of his visit, priced on the hours your kitchen will take.

Prep That Keeps the Finish On

Doors, drawer fronts and hardware come off and are labeled so each piece returns to its own opening. Every surface is degreased first, because cooking residue is what makes paint on cabinets let go. The wood is then scuff-sanded and coated with a bonding primer that grips the old finish. If you're switching to new pulls, the old hardware holes are filled and sanded flush. Counters, backsplash, floors and appliances are masked before spraying starts.

The Sprayed Finish

The cabinet boxes are normally not painted. However, if the customer requests that the boxes be painted, they should be painted using a brush and roller. The cabinet frames can be sprayed. Cabinet doors and drawers are typically sprayed at the customer's home, usually in the garage. The crew must create a fully enclosed spray area to protect the surrounding surfaces and belongings from overspray.

Living With the Kitchen That Week

Expect the kitchen to be partly out of service while cabinets are masked and drying. Empty the cabinets being painted before day one, and set up coffee and a few dishes in another room. The crew keeps the work area tidy at the end of each day.

Doors Back On

When the finish has cured enough to handle, doors and hardware go back on and are adjusted so they close straight. You open every door with the crew before they leave, and the leftover paint stays with you. Cabinet finishing is named in our 1-year workmanship warranty, so if the finish we applied fails from our workmanship in that first year, we return and fix it at no cost. Normal wear is excluded. What to Expect During Your Cabinet Painting

Color and Condition Visit

Jose checks your doors, joints and current finish, talks through color and sheen, and writes a quote that day based on the hours your kitchen needs.

Remove, Label, Degrease

Doors and hardware come off and get labeled. Every surface is degreased and scuff-sanded, then the rest of the kitchen is masked for spraying.

Prime and Spray

Bonding primer goes on first, then the sprayed topcoat. Doors are finished flat so the enamel levels out without runs.

4

Rehang and Inspect

Once the finish cures enough to handle, doors are rehung and adjusted. You open every one with the crew, usually by day five.
